OUR APPROACH TO ARCHITECTURAL METALWORK

Architectural metalwork includes balustrades, gates, railings, security doors, window guards, handrails and metal fences. The products and metals may vary but the principles are the same.

We believe that high quality architectural metalwork should achieve two objectives:

    • Immediately become an asset that increases the overall value of a property,
    • Remain an asset rather than becoming another building maintenance expense.

Therefore, rather than only considering only the initial cost of the architectural metalwork, a building owner should consider the product Life Cycle Cost and its effect on a building, to determine the true cost.

We believe one factor stands out above all others in achieving these dual goals and that factor is design.

    • Firstly, good design is aesthetically pleasing by complimenting the building’s style. Generally, we tend towards an Australian rather than European style; a style that feels solid to touch or use, is simple instead of overly ornate, and is balanced in proportions. Some of the best examples of such a style of metalwork are the gates and railings of Sydney’s Centennial Park.
    • Secondly, good design ensures the metalwork is functional: serving its intended purpose, whether it be for safety, security or ornamentation. A door or gate for example should be easy to operate while being of sufficient strength to provide security.
    • Thirdly, good design means using appropriate materials, correct methods of manufacture / assembly, suitable methods of installation and application of durable anti-corrosion finishes to suit the environment. The metalwork should last the life of the building with minimal maintenance. Sydney’s coastal location is challenging, requiring metalwork to be designed, manufactured, and installed to withstand a salty, moist atmosphere.

RESTORATIONS

Restoration of original metalwork including wrought iron and cast iron is available. Many of Sydney’s older buildings have excellent examples of genuine wrought iron (which is now only manufactured by one small specialist mill in the UK using recycled materials).

Restoring the original metalwork to its former glory can substantially add to a building’s value if done correctly. However, the use of mass produced, imitation elements or attempts at reproduction with inappropriate, modern welding techniques and hollow tubular sections, can detract enormously from a building’s aesthetic quality. We can both advise on and undertake the restoration work.

CRIMSTEEL® SECURITY DOORS

Crimsteel security doors are our industrial quality security doors, designed for use mainly in commercial & industrial situations where extreme durability and fire safe egress is required to comply with building codes and OH&S requirements.

Comprising a welded steel frame and fitted with Australia’s strongest stainless steel security mesh, Crimsteel doors are second to none for durability and safe egress. Dorma locks and automatic closers are fitted to ensure years of reliable closing and locking.

These superb quality doors and gates have been fitted in some very demanding situations in Sydney, including Railcorp’s City Circle rail stations.

STRATA ENTRY GATES

Strata entry gates and gates within apartment buildings usually need to:

    • Withstand heavy use for many years by tenants and owners,
    • Be foolproof to operate
    • Reliably close in variable wind loads,
    • Comply with Fire regulations and building codes
    • Integrate with building intercoms, electronic access and key systems.
    • Close quietly
    • Open with minimal resistance for users
    • Provide access for services such as meter readers and maintenance trades

Using one company that understands all the building users’ requirements, will co-ordinate all the trades, and is responsible for the overall project is a necessity.

Having a qualified Project Manager oversee such projects is why we are preferred by some of Sydney’s better property managers and locksmiths.
